Overall deaths by county in New Jersey amid the pandemic

More than 34,000 more people than expected have died in New Jersey since the coronavirus erupted in March 2020, a toll that captures not only those who succumbed to the disease, but also the indirect health consequences of the crisis.

Total deaths cover combined monthly mortality from March 2020 through January 2022. They are compared to the monthly averages of deaths from 2015 to 2019.
