Rural hospitals with labor and delivery

Nationwide, most rural hospitals no longer have labor and delivery departments. Since late 2020, 100+ rural hospitals have stopped delivering babies or announced they'll stop in 2025. The map below shows the percentage of rural hospitals in each state that have labor and delivery departments and the number of departments that have closed since 2020.

Note: New Jersey and Rhode Island have no rural hospitals.
