A $16 minimum wage?

The minimum hourly wage in the Portland area climbs to $14.75 in July 1. Next year's increase is pegged to inflation. If inflation continues at the current rate of 8.6% annually, the metro minimum wage could hit $16 in 2023.

Until the 1980s, both the Oregon and the federal minimum wages applied differently to different types of workers. The rates pictured are the highest rates for each year. Today, the minimum wage in the Portland metro is higher than other parts of the state.
