Since January 2022, Russia and Iran have engaged in a tranche of high level visits to discuss political, economic, military, and security ties. Iran has had very few high level meetings with its European counterparts since August 2022 (estimated to be roughly nine in person meetings), after which relations deteriorated following stalled nuclear talks, Russia's use of Iranian drones in Ukraine, and the Mahsa Amini protests in Iran.
