Since 2015, the League of American Bicyclists has recommended that every state adopt a bicycle safety emphasis as part of their federally-required Strategic Highway Safety Plan. Emphasis areas guide project selection and programmatic safety priorities. As of 2022, there are 32 states with a bicycle safety emphasis.
