States where avian flu has been found in dairy cows
As of Jan. 15, 2025, avian flu had been found in livestock in 16 U.S. states. The USDA issued rules in late April 2024 for testing lactating cows before transporting them across state lines.
Sixteen states had dairy cows that tested positive for avian flu as of January 15, 2025: Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Michigan, Texas, Iowa, Minnesota, New Mexico, South Dakota, Kansas, California, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Ohio and Wyoming.
