Over the last 10 years, the Department of Juvenile Services has seen a disproportionate number of African American children admitted into its seven juvenile detention facilities. In 2019, 77.6% of the 2,406 children admitted in state detention facilities were Black, 15% were white and 7.4% were Hispanic and other races.
