Still over 1 million people each year infected with HIV

According to the latest UN AIDS figures, 1.3 million people each year are still newly infected with HIV, despite progress to slash numbers since the turn of the century.
Even with developments in treatment, 630,000 people died from AIDS-related causes in 2023.
The disruption to US-funded aid has already impacted HIV treatment programs, and it is possible that numbers will increase.
