How much sustainable aviation fuel will be needed?

In a world with net-zero carbon emissions from aviation: Ambitious scenarios, with extreme reductions in both flight demand and energy intensity, can require an amount of sustainable aviation fuel nearly equal to all biofuels produced globally in 2019, researchers found. Under industry projections for demand and efficiency, more than twice 2019's biofuel production would be needed. In business-as-usual projections, it would be five times 2019's production.
