The rightward shift and child care costs
Donald Trump's largest vote share gains came in counties with the highest percentage of household income spent on child care.
This bar chart shows the median change in the vote margin per county, grouping the counties by how large a share of median income childcare consumes. Most counties saw a 3.5 percentage point shift in margin, but among the top 10% most difficult, that margin was 4 points. Among the lowest top 10% the margin shift was 2 points.
