Emissions from new runways could undermine govt clean power savings
The proposed expansions to London airports could generate 64 million tonnes of CO2 emissions in just five years if they all go ahead; while the NEF estimates that the government's ambitions for its clean power plan would save between 46 to 65 million in emissions.
All estimates are from the New Economics Foundation. All aviation emissions relate to inbound and outbound flights, and include a 1.7x multiplier to account for non-CO2 emissions based on DESNZ guidance.
