Vanderbilt has a record number of applicants, and with rising yield rates, the acceptance rate is declining.
Over the years, the college has experienced a sharp increase in application volume, accompanied by a significant decline in acceptance numbers—reflecting a rise in selectivity. For the Class of 2019, 3,674 students were accepted out of 31,464 applicants. This trend remained fairly stable through the Class of 2022, which saw 3,298 acceptances from 34,313 applicants. Beginning with the Class of 2023, applications began to surge, reaching 37,310, while accepted students numbered 3,402. The Class of 2024 marked a major shift, with 42,259 acceptances from just 36,646 applicants—likely influenced by pandemic-era policies. However, the selectivity intensified afterward: for the Class of 2025, 3,368 students were admitted from 47,152 applications; for the Class of 2026, 3,093 out of 46,377; and for the Class of 2027, 2,844 out of 45,313. This tightening continued with the Class of 2028, where 2,401 students were accepted from a pool of 47,171 applicants. Most recently, the Class of 2029 had the lowest number of accepted students—2,302—from the highest applicant pool yet at 48,681. These figures underline a dramatic rise in competitiveness over the past decade.
