As of Aug. 1 of this year, there were 603 people in Georgia jails who lacked representation. Many have been in jail for weeks, months or even years without ever being convicted of a crime. Although nearly 30% of those cases (177) are in Fulton County (Atlanta circuit), the issue is widespread across the state's judicial districts.
