Redlining in NYC

Class A: "Best." Class B: "Still desirable" Class C: "Definitely declining" Class D: "Hazardous"

This chart shows how HOLC classified neighborhoods in NYC. In the Bronx: much of South and Central Bronx are "redlined" - declared "hazardous." In Manhattan: much of Harlem, and parts of the east side down to the lower east side, were redlined. In Brooklyn: large parts of northern and central Brooklyn were Redlined. In Queens, smaller areas were redlined, but large areas were declared "Declining." In Staten Island, a few areas on the north shore were redlined.
