During the Pandemic, the City Shrank While the Suburbs Grew

Philadelphia lost about 40,000 residents in the first three years of the pandemic, before rebounding last year. Meanwhile, the suburbs continued to grow, collectively adding about 94,000 residents. Change in population from April 1, 2020, to July 1, 2024:
