For Black Americans in the South, segregation is more severe in large cities than rural areas

This graph shows the dissimilarity index of each county type, a way of measuring how evenly spread a population is over a the county. The index ranges from zero to one. The closer to one, the more severe the segregation. The dataset is filtered to exclude counties where less than 5% of the population is Black and the median values are weighted by the number of Black residents in the county.
