Surrounded by enemies, Kurds seek American support amidst push for autonomy
The Kurdistan Regional Government has hired BGR Group, Greenberg Traurig and other prominent American lobbying firms to protect Kurdish interests and advocate for greater Kurdish autonomy.
The area in light red shows the area where Kurds make up the dominant ethnic and cultural group and which some Kurds claim to be the rightful Kurdish nation. The area outlined in black is Iraqi Kurdistan, an autonomous region within Iraq governed by the Kurdistan Regional Government.
