California's year-round shelter bed inventory grew from 2022 to 2023

NOTES: Number of beds as reported by Continuums of Care (CoCs) in the Housing Inventory Count (HIC) conducted in January. Beds and units must be dedicated to persons experiencing homelessness or persons who were homeless when they entered permanent housing. The sheltered data includes only beds that are available year-round. Bed counts in 2021 and 2022 were affected by social distancing measures that lowered capacity by up to 50%. These measures, along with COVID-era protections such as eviction moratoriums, mostly ended by the time of the 2023 count.
