PFAS Chemicals Found in Almost All Military Firefighters' Blood

The Defense Department tested the blood of 9,104 firefighters for six commonly found PFAS chemicals. The National Academy of Sciences recommends that people with PFAS blood serum levels above 2 nanograms per milliliter (ng/mL) get additional medical screenings.

Note: The average blood concentration is calculated as a geometric mean. Both PFHpA and PFBS were below the limit of detection of 0.05 ng/mL, according to a defense official.
