Major metros have a combined population of 1 million or more. Medium-sized metros have a population of 250,000 to 999,999. Small metros have a population of under 250,000. Nonmetro counties (which are rural for the purposes of this report) are not within a Metropolitan Statistical Area (OMB 2013).
