Losing ground to suicide, alcohol and drugs

The nation’s opioid crisis, along with rising rates of suicide and alcohol-related deaths, are contributing to an overall decline in life expectancy in the United States, according to a Commonwealth Fund report. The 2019 Scorecard on State Health System Performance shows double-digit increases in each of these death rates in both the U.S. and Illinois, with drug death rates more than doubling.
