Most racial and ethnic minorities in the US have higher rates of diabetes and obesity than non-Hispanic white people
Although about 60% of the U.S. population is non-Hispanic white people, several racial and ethnic minorities have much higher rates of obesity and diabetes – just two indicators of the country's long-standing health inequities.
The U.S. non-Hispanic white population has an 8% rate of diabetes and 30% obesity. Asian: 11.4% and 13%. Non-Hispanic Black: 13.2% rate of diabetes, 34.9% obesity. Hispanics/Latino: 19.8%, 51.7%. American Indian or Alaska Native: 23.5% and 48.1%.
