The average time required to complete an environmental impact statement from 2010-2018 was 4.5 years

During this nine-year period, federal agencies completed 1,276 environmental impact statements. More than 70% of the studies were done in two to five years. Factors that affect the time required to conduct an EIS include the type, scope and complexity of the proposed project.
