Declining number of firefighters in Pennsylvania

The number of volunteer firefighters in Pennsylvania has fallen 90% since the 1970s, when there were about 370,000 on the roster. That number hovers at 38,000 today. Experts have pointed to time constraints, less shift work and busier social calendars for the drop in volunteers.
