Big change

While previous jobs reports gave the impression that hiring has remained stable, Friday's revised figures showed that hiring actually slowed significantly this summer.

Two bar charts showing monthly new hiring from January to July. The top chart, which shows revised numbers, sees hiring hold steady between 100,0000 and 150,000 per month until April, then it falls to less than 25,000 per month in May and June before rebounding above 70,000 in July. The second chart, which shows the original figures, does not show the summer dip. Instead May and June's figures hold steady.
