Number of places per state listed on the National Register of Historic Places

The National Parks Service's National Register of Historic Places lists districts, buildings, structures and sites that are deemed historically significant. The National Register was created following the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, which established programs and procedures for identification and protection of historic resources.
