OBBB Pushes Cost of Some Benefits to States

For the first time, states will be responsible for a portion of SNAP benefits dependent on error rates. If states use FY 25 error rates, states will be responsible for about $9 billion total starting October 2027.

States with some of the highest error rates are able to delay implementation and won't have to pay any benefits starting October 2027.
