Visitors who learned more about slavery had more empathy

Visitors to three presidential historic sites – Monticello, Montpelier and Mount Vernon – were asked to rate how much they learned about enslaved people during their visits. Those who reported learning more were more likely to say slavery had a great deal of impact on the nation, and to feel more empathy for enslaved people.
