Homicide rate per 100,000 residents

In 2024, Memphis, Tennessee, had the highest homicide rate, while Los Angeles had the lowest. Between 2019 and 2024, homicide rates increased in Memphis, Washington, D.C., and Portland, Oregon, but declined in Los Angeles and Chicago.

Chart scales vary. Rates may differ slightly from FBI data due to Stateline's use of U.S. Census Bureau population estimates. The Los Angeles Police Department did not report crime data to the FBI in 2021 because of changes to the FBI’s data collection system.
