Mental Health Providers in Counties with Native Americans and Alaska Natives

Counties with reservations or tribal headquarters, or at least a 2.9% Native American and Alaska Native population are displayed.

Mental health provider data obtained from ABC News, and represents data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ National Plan and Provider Enumeration System, for providers listed as psychiatrists and psychologists. Federally recognized American Indian reservations data obtained from census American Indian Reservations, Statistical Areas. Tribal headquarters obtained from the U.S. Department of the Interior Indian Affairs Tribal Leaders Directory Datasets. Latitude and longitude reverse geolocation used to assign county to tribal headquarter and reservation. Poor mental health status corresponds to the average number of reported mentally unhealthy days in a 30-day period. Data from 2019 Behavioral Risk Factors Surveillance System aggregated by the 2022 County Health Rankings. The national average share of households with any broadband is 78.5%. Broadband access obtained from Table S2801 2020 ACS 5-year estimate. Only counties with at least a 2.9% American Indian and Alaskan Native population are displayed. This percent reflects the share of AI/AN in the 2020 US Census.
