Local tax measures could generate early childhood funding

Seven counties and one multi-county region will ask voters to approve sales or lodging taxes on Election Day that could send new funding to early childhood efforts. In some communities, all of the tax revenue would go to early childhood efforts and in others only a portion would. In a few cases, the new tax proceeds could be used but don't have to be used for early childhood purposes.

* If passed, 35% of the proceeds from the lodging tax increase would go to municipalities in the county, which could use the funding for child care or other specified uses. The other 65% of the proceeds would stay with the county for public safety, public infrastructure, and tourism.
