Over time, people forget about where you went to school. They only care about your experience and accomplishments. That’s sage advice, but let’s be honest: You can start faster with a prestige degree. It automatically confers respect, a stamp of approval that proves you can compete with the very best. Not surprisingly, ranking correlates with prestige in the alumni survey. This year’s highest marks went to the usual suspects: Stanford, Harvard, Wharton, INSEAD, MIT, and Columbia. In fact, the only notable outlier – Cambridge University – traditionally ranks among the world’s oldest and most prestigious universities. That said, three Top 10 programs – Michigan Ross, Berkeley Haas, and Dartmouth Tuck – rank between 16-20. Otherwise, the survey is simply self-reinforcing.
