Who carries flood insurance in NC?

Less than three percent of North Carolina households are protected with flood insurance, according to the National Flood Insurance Program as of May 31, 2025. Most of the policy holders, of course, live along the coast. But 55 counties have less than one percent of households with flood insurance, most of which are in central NC.
