Texas uncertified teacher rate by school subject

About 1 in 10 Texas educators lacked a teacher certification in 2025-26 while leading a core class that will soon require a certification. Uncertified teacher rates were slightly higher in most non-core subjects.

Note: Texas law does not explicitly require certification of self-contained educators, who typically teach multiple subjects to elementary school students. However, they will be required to be certified if part of their assignment includes teaching any subject that fall under the law.
