When a child is found to have elevated blood lead levels, the R.I. Department of Health sends an inspector to the child's home to check for lead hazards. If any hazards are found, the property owner is sent a notice of violation and is required fix the problem. The hazard is considered "abated" when another inspector visits to confirm that the property is safe.
