Good Government Lincoln accepted vs. rejected signatures

The Lancaster County Election Commission reviewed more than 30,000 signatures for the Lincoln-focused campaign seeking to reshape city elections. Of those signatures, election officials rejected more than 65% for a variety of reasons. Signatures flagged as possibly fraudulent were referred to law enforcement and have, as of Aug. 7, 2026, led to five arrests of petition circulators from out of state.

Supporters are restarting signature gathering. A petition must have at least 4,981 valid signatures to qualify for the Nov. 3 ballot.

Voter registration issues include voters not being registered in Nebraska or Lincoln. Other reasons include duplicate signatures and illegible handwriting. Documents listed one more signature than election officials said they reviewed for the petitions to enact term limits and expand municipal election borders.
