Impact of Chinese Counter-Countermeasures in Japan
Hours until the first airfield in Japan reopens to fighter and/or tanker operations
This chart demonstrates how different interventions from China impact airfield closure time for fighter and tanker operations in Japan compared to the baseline scenario and the dispersion cases. China reallocating existing missiles closer to Japan and Taiwan modestly increases times across all tanker operations categories and in the no dispersion case for fighters. DF-26 investments by China greatly increase closure times outside of Japan (not shown here) at the cost of slightly reducing closure times in Japan. A better targeting strategy by China that simultaneously considers fighter and tanker operations equalizes the two categories, denying fighter operations for nearly twice as long as the base scenario.
