Do I get help through Social Security or Medicare?

The Social Security Administration handles a lot of the paperwork for Medicare, but not all. Here's where to head if you need the following services. Note that wait times on each agency's toll-free number — Social Security at 800-772-1213 and Medicare at 800-633-4227 can be long.

† If you automatically received your Medicare card with Part A and Part B enrollment because you started Social Security payments at least 4 months before your 65th birthday, you'll need to send the card in the mail to the address on the back indicating that you don't want Part B now.
