California eviction filings have been above pre-pandemic averages most months since moratorium ended

Case filings from 19 of California's most populous counties show since the statewide eviction moratorium ended mid-2022, eviction filings remain elevated compared to the year prior to the pandemic. In August 2023, there were 18% more filings in these counties than the monthly average in 2019.

Data depict civil limited unlawful detainer filings in the following California counties: Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Santa Clara, Alameda, Sacramento, Contra Costa, Fresno, Kern, San Francisco, Ventura, San Joaquin, San Mateo, Stanislaus, Sonoma, Tulare and Santa Barbara
