Differs from country to country; currently, the main distinction happens to be whether or not there is “discussion, debate, and/or advocacy” about particular issues. If there is, then it gets classified as political, and if there isn’t, then it escapes the classification.

Election-related ads include ads about candidates or parties for public office, ballot measures or referendums, political action committees, and ads that urge people to vote or register to vote.
Issue or advocacy ads are ads concerning issues or organizations that are the subject of debate on a local, national, or global level, or of public importance. They include ads about abortion, immigration, the environment, education, discrimination, and guns.

Differs from country to country; but follows the pattern that election ads are ads that feature or are run by a political party, a political candidate or current member of the parliaments or legislatures in the respective country.
Ads run by non-political entities promoting political merchandise or ads run by news organizations to promote their coverage of political parties are not included.

Ads related to campaigns or elections, or that solicit political donations, ads that promote voting or voter registration, ads promoting political merchandise.
Also includes ads pertaining to topics of potential legislative or political importance or placed by political organizations.

‘Political content’
Content that references a candidate, political party, elected or appointed government official, election, referendum, ballot measure, legislation, regulation, directive, or judicial outcome.
Ads that contain references to political content, including appeals for votes, solicitations of financial support, and advocacy for or against any of the above-listed types of political content, are prohibited under this policy.
We also do not allow ads of any type by candidates, political parties, or elected or appointed government officials.
