Ashland voters go out to the polls in general elections, but neglect local elections
Like most of the country, Ashland residents vote most often in general elections in November, when they elect a slate of national, state and local officials. But when it comes to the city's municipal and special elections, voters show up far less.
Graph showing Ashland voter turnout in different elections. Turnout is usually over 50% for general elections, though it falls to just above 40% for the 2022 midterms. For the other elections, turnout is low, with primaries usually gathering between 10-30% turnout, and municipal elections usually even lower. Special elections in 2017, 2021, and 2024 had fewer than 10% turnout.
