US oil production has surged since 2008
With innovations in hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling boosting oil production, the U.S. surpassed Russia and Saudi Arabia a few years ago to lead the world in oil production.
Line charts show US oil production peaking in 1970, then dropping until 2009, when production surged again. Russia and Saudi Arabia traded places as the top produce until the US passed them around 2018.
