gScore is an attempt to quantify the Cy Young races using the contributions of pitchers over the entire season.
⁍ It is based on Tom Tango's version of the single-game Game Score, which starts with a base of 40 points and adds or subtracts points based on the values below.
⁍ gScore removes the 40-point base and awards the same points over the course of the entire season.
⁍ gScore values starting pitchers for their larger volume of outs and strikeouts.
Outs | Strikeouts | Walks |
2 | 1 | -2 |
Hits | Runs | Home runs |
-2 | -3 | -6 |
