Fort Worth ISD's third grade reading performance has consistently lagged behind most other urban districts in the state on STAAR tests. State testing was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Just 33% of third graders in Fort Worth ISD met grade level in reading on the 2019 STAAR exam, placing the district behind every major urban district in the state except San Antonio ISD.
