Louisiana has four of the eight Republican-held congressional districts with the most Medicaid expansion enrollees. House Speaker Mike Johnson’s northwest Louisiana district is one of them.
Louisiana is among the poorest states to accept federal funding to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. Now, those Medicaid expansion dollars are under threat as the GOP seeks ways to pay for extending President Donald Trump’s tax cuts and fund his border priorities.
