Notes: 1.0 indicates Trump’s first trade war; 2.0 indicates Trump’s second trade war. Indexed value of US real monthly goods imports, 12-month trailing sums. Trump 1.0 tariffs (25%, 7.5%, No tariff) refer to the lists of products subject to different US tariff rates, as of February 2020, imposed on imports from China under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 over 2018-19. The September 2019 list of products was originally subject to a 15% tariff that was reduced to 7.5% in February 2020.
