Housing is unaffordable for half of all Minnesota renters. In 2022. 49.9 percent of renter households in Minnesota spent more than 30 percent of their income on rent, which is considered rent-burdened. This is the highest percentage point of cost-burdened households over the past decade.
Affordable housing is defined as housing that costs an owner or renter no more than 30% of household income. The Census Bureau did not release this data in 2020, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
