The rate of pedestrian fatalities per pedestrian commuter was the second highest rate for this time period, which reflects the years when pedestrian commuter estimates are available. An over 400,000 person increase in pedestrian commuters in 2022 compared to 2021 outweighed a continued increased in pedestrian deaths.

The rate of pedestrian fatalities per million people and per 10,000 pedestrian commuters from 2007 to 2022. This rate has been steadily increasing for more than a decade, reaching new highs in 2021 and 2022.
