The typical number of students in violation of North Carolina's attendance laws (at least 10 consecutive unexcused absences) in a given month increased by nearly 1,200% from the 2018-19 school year to the 2020-21 school year (from 847 students to 10,596 students) and by 247% from the 2018-19 school year to the 2021-22 school year (847 students to 2,936 students).
