Note: Net migration equals the number of individuals moving to NYC from a given county minus the number of individuals leaving NYC to the same county. Grayed out counties generated no measurable outflow to NYC and received no measurable inflow from NYC over the 5-year period. The IRS does not publish county-to-county flows of under 20 tax returns in a single year, in order to protect taxpayer privacy. Instead, those data points are aggregated to the regional level (Midwest, Northeast, South, and West). Over the 5-year period, 0.9 percent of NYC's net migration was not linked to a specific county. Connecticut planning region data has been crosswalked back to legacy county boundaries for mapping purposes.
